Effective evaporation of water!
Even solid sample can be concentrated!

We had an interview with Mr. Y who works at one of the machinery manufacturers, and his research is focused on the organic synthesis chemistry.

Interviewee:
Mr. Y in the department of material application development at one machinery manufacturer

BioChromato

Thank you for this opportunity today.

Mr.Y

It’s my pleasure.

BioChromato

So would you tell us about your research field?

Mr.Y

I work in the material and energy research.

BioChromato

How do they relate to machinery manufacturing?

Mr.Y

Well, I search the effective application of light or energy and expand that idea to create new materials or improve current materials. We use such materials to develop new products. For example one product consists of material A which is to control or store heat and material B that is to reduce the heat loss. We search for better solutions of light or heat applications.

BioChromato

So I understand that the optimization of energy links to the development of products. Then how do you use the Smart Evaporator in your research work?

Mr.Y

I use that for concentrating samples for the synthesis or excluding solvents before measurement.

BioChromato

So what do you generally concentrate and how much is the volume?

Mr.Y

I generally concentrate water and also other solvents like isopropyl or acetone.I completely dry up the small quantity solvent like 5ml or 10ml, and for synthesis or analysis I use the same sample tubes sized 10ml, 20ml, or 50ml.

BioChromato

How did you evaporate small samples like 5ml or 10ml before?

Mr.Y

I used to use a rotary evaporator which is ordinary for bigger sample evaporation. I still use both instruments depending on the sample quantity, but it’s troublesome to collect the small sample from a big flask.

BioChromato

I see. So now you have the Smart Evaporator, and how does that advance your work?

Mr.Y

The Smart Evaporator is a simple system with only a vacuum pump, and also I like its small footprint that saves the working space, which is not easy with a rotary evaporator. And I used to take too long for concentrating water, so I also try the freeze dryer but the water is likely to melt before it’s done. When I retry or use a rotary evaporator, since each instrument is placed separately in the lab, I could not finish the experimental work at one place, which was too much burden for me. Now I don’t need to worry any of these.

BioChromato

So the factors that you purchase the Smart Evaporator were its small footprint and also the capability of water evaporation to save your time.

Mr.Y

Yes. Some of us use the Smart Evaporator almost every day. We used to take more than a half day to concentrate water, but now we just have to leave for 2 hours after it’s started. This brings us a great improvement in our work efficiency.

BioChromato

It’s my pleasure to receive such compliments. So did you purchase that to improve the work efficiency?

Mr.Y

Well, yes.The work efficiency takes an important role for developing the productivity. Also it was reasonable so I made my mind to purchase the Smart Evaporator. The principal of the Smart Evaporator is to generate the air flow then stir sample. I was concerned of swirling dried powdery samples which never happens with a rotary evaporator, but it did not happen with the demo unit.

BioChromato

So you can conclude that even solid samples are expected to develop your operation work.Have you found any problems using the Smart Evaporator?

Mr.Y

Well…I work with many samples so I wish to have the multiple positions evaporator, maybe three positions would be enough. Also I personally feel that the vacuum pump or trap should be integrated.

BioChromato

We appreciate for your feedbacks.  I’m afraid if one part of the integrated system needs to be repaired, then you may not be able to use the whole system. The Smart Evaporator is designed to reduce such risk, giving ease to users.  About the multiple-positions evaporator we now start to promote the Smart Evaporator C10 so please check further information. We appreciate to have this opportunity today, thank you.

Summary

Mr. Y who works on the material application development uses the Smart Evaporator for synthesis or analysis of small volume samples. When compared with rotary evaporator or freeze dryer, the work efficiency’s been significantly improved especially for water evaporation. Also Mr. Y found it easy to concentrate even the powdery solid samples, which is a great complementation for us. If there are any of you who concerns concentrating solid sample with the Smart Evaporator, we appreciate for your reconsideration. It was a good opportunity to know once again the outstanding features of Smart Evaporator like its small footprint, the capability to use the sample tubes for storage and the ability of water concentration.
